COURSE CURRICULUM

Conestoga College’s Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning (HRAC) Technician program offers a comprehensive four-level curriculum designed to prepare students for careers in the heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning fields. In Level 1, students establish a strong foundation with courses such as Electrical I, Heating I, Refrigeration I, along with College Reading & Writing and an introduction to college life through Conestoga 101. Level 2 builds on this foundation by introducing HVAC Prints, Electrical II, Gas Code G-3 certification preparation, Heating II, and Refrigeration II, helping students develop essential technical skills and industry knowledge. Level 3 focuses on advancing these skills with courses including Electrical III, Heating III, Refrigeration III, and Metal Joining and Cutting, alongside a general education elective, providing both practical and theoretical expertise necessary for complex systems and maintenance tasks. In the final Level 4, students complete advanced studies in Heating IV, Refrigeration IV, Building Systems, and Hydronics, while also fulfilling a general education elective requirement. This level emphasizes integrating knowledge of whole building systems and advanced HVAC technologies. Throughout the program, students benefit from hands-on training in Conestoga’s state-of-the-art Skills Trades Centre, gaining practical experience in a fully equipped HRAC shop. The program also prepares students to write important certifications such as the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) G3 and G2 Gas Technician exams. Graduates leave well-prepared to enter the workforce, with the potential for exemptions in apprenticeship trade school levels, positioning them for success in an evolving industry focused increasingly on energy efficiency and green technologies. This comprehensive education equips students with the technical skills, safety knowledge, and industry certifications necessary for a rewarding career in heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning.
