COURSE CURRICULUM

Conestoga College’s Hearing Instrument Specialist diploma program spans four levels, offering a comprehensive education that combines theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional development. In Level 1, students build a foundation with courses such as Audiometry I, Acoustics and Psychoacoustics, Anatomy and Physiology of the Ear, Hearing Aids I, and essential academic skills including College Reading & Writing and Conestoga 101. Level 2 expands on this foundation with Patient Communication, Hearing Instrument Specialist Field Studies, Clinical Principles I, Hearing Aids II, and Audiometry II, alongside a general education elective. These courses develop students’ clinical and communication skills essential for working with clients experiencing hearing loss. Level 3 focuses on advanced clinical and technical skills with courses including Professionalism and Business Development, Clinical Principles II, Hearing Aids III, Hearing Aid Verification, Clinical Readiness, and Safety in the Workplace, ensuring students are prepared for the practical demands of the profession. Finally, Level 4 consists of an extensive Field Placement, providing real-world clinical experience and opportunities to apply learning in professional settings, solidifying students’ readiness for employment. The program emphasizes hands-on training, immersive simulations, and industry-relevant business skills, guided by faculty with extensive industry experience. Graduates are well-prepared to pursue careers in clinical practice, sales, management, customer service, marketing, or training within the hearing instrument industry.
