COURSE CURRICULUM

The Game - Art program at Conestoga College offers a comprehensive four-level curriculum designed to develop the technical and artistic skills needed to create immersive game environments, characters, and assets. In Level 1, students build foundational skills through courses such as Storyboarding, Digital Art, 3D Foundations, Life Drawing, and Game Design, alongside essential academic courses like College Reading and Writing and Conestoga 101. Level 2 advances students’ expertise with courses in Digital Art II, Texture Creation, Game Art and Architecture I, 3D Sculpting I, Concept Art for Games, and Media Studies for Game Design, fostering a strong understanding of both artistic and industry concepts. Level 3 focuses on more specialized skills, including Level Assembly and Lighting I, Game Characters, 3D Sculpting II, Game Art and Architecture II, and a studio course, with students also completing a general education elective. This level deepens knowledge of character modeling, environment design, and lighting techniques. In the final Level 4, students engage in advanced coursework such as Advanced Game Characters, Level Assembly and Lighting II, Portfolio Development and Presentation, and a Studio II Capstone project, alongside another general education elective. This culminating level prepares students to showcase their skills professionally and transition into the industry with a polished portfolio. Throughout the program, students work both independently and collaboratively, using industry-standard hardware and software, and benefit from faculty with industry experience. Located in the vibrant Kitchener-Waterloo technology hub, the program offers a creative and supportive environment to develop the artistic and technical expertise needed for a successful career in game art and development.
