COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electrical Techniques diploma program at Conestoga College is designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills essential for a career in the electrical trade. In Level 1, students begin with foundational courses such as Electronics 1, Prints and Standards I, DC Fundamentals, Residential Installations, and Signal Shop, which build their understanding of basic electrical concepts, circuitry, and wiring methods. Level 2 advances this knowledge with Prints and Standards II, AC Fundamentals, Wiring Methods, DC Motor Lab, and Instrumentation I, emphasizing hands-on learning and technical skills development in wiring and motor operation. By Level 3, students delve into more complex subjects including AC Motor Lab, Prints and Standards III, AC Power, Commercial Circuits, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), with continued exposure to practical applications and industry standards. Level 4 focuses on advanced electrical concepts with courses such as Prints and Standards IV, 3 Phase Power, Transformers, and Automation Principles, preparing students to handle industrial-level electrical systems and automation technologies. Throughout the program, students also select general education electives to enhance their critical thinking and communication skills. The curriculum is structured to combine theoretical learning with extensive hands-on training in Conestoga’s well-equipped electrical labs, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for electrical apprenticeships and careers in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. This program equips students with the skills necessary to troubleshoot, install, and maintain electrical systems, fostering a strong foundation for future specialization or further education in the electrical field.
