COURSE CURRICULUM

The Educational Support program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively support learners with exceptionalities across various educational settings. Beginning with foundational courses such as Role of the Educational Assistant, Student Growth and Development, Introduction to Exceptionalities, and Elements of Practice, students build a solid understanding of the diverse needs of exceptional learners. Safety in the Workplace ensures a secure and supportive learning environment. In the second level, courses focus on Principles of Learning, The Exceptional Learner, and Positive Behaviour Support and Strategies, paired with the first Field Placement, allowing students to apply theoretical concepts in real-world settings. At Level 3, students enhance their communication skills through Essential Communication Skills for Educational Assistants and develop specialized knowledge in Autism Spectrum Disorder and Supporting Communication through Assistive Technology. This level also includes a second Field Placement to deepen practical experience. Level 4 emphasizes collaboration and professionalism in education with courses like Collaboration and Professional Practice, Empowering Students Through Inclusive Practice, and Supporting Students with Physical and Medical Exceptionalities. The final Field Placement provides immersive, hands-on learning opportunities. Throughout the program, students also select General Education electives to broaden their perspectives. This well-rounded approach ensures graduates are prepared to work as effective members of educational teams, implementing inclusive practices, supporting diverse learners’ academic and social growth, and contributing positively to educational environments. Through a blend of theory, practical application, and field experience, students develop the competencies needed to make a meaningful impact on learners with exceptionalities.
