COURSE CURRICULUM

The Early Learning and Child Care diploma program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to excel in the early childhood education field. At Level 1, foundational courses such as Foundations of Curriculum, Play, and Pedagogy, Child Development: The Early Years, and Introduction to Early Learning and Care provide students with a strong base in child development and responsive teaching methods, complemented by practical experience through Field Placement I. Safety in the Workplace and College Reading & Writing Across Contexts support students' academic and professional readiness. In Level 2, students deepen their understanding with courses like Health Safety & Nutrition, Child Development: The Later Years, Responsive Curriculum and Pedagogy, and Partnership With Families, which focus on holistic child development and family collaboration, alongside Field Placement II to apply theory to practice. Electives broaden students' perspectives while fostering critical thinking. Level 3 courses such as Child Development: A Holistic Approach, Integrative Curriculum and Pedagogy, and Family and Community Collaboration in the Early Years emphasize inclusive program design and community engagement. Field Placement III provides further hands-on experience in diverse early learning environments. At Level 4, students explore advanced topics including Philosophy in Practice, Professional Practice in the Early Years, and Issues in Quality in the Early Years Sector, preparing them for leadership roles in the field. Field Placement IV offers an opportunity to consolidate learning and demonstrate professional competence. Throughout the program, students engage in a variety of learning methods, including classroom instruction, simulations, and extensive fieldwork, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to support children’s growth and development in inclusive, play-based settings, while collaborating effectively with families and communities.
