COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering Technician diploma program at Conestoga is structured across four levels, providing students with a comprehensive education that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills to prepare for careers in civil engineering and infrastructure development. Level 1 introduces foundational courses such as statics, introduction to civil projects and construction safety, college reading and writing, Conestoga 101, mathematics, science for technology, and surveying, giving students essential skills in mathematics, science, and basic engineering concepts. Level 2 builds on this foundation with courses in CAD, mechanics of materials, technical drafting and estimating, construction materials, introduction to water and wastewater, and further mathematics, equipping students with knowledge of design tools, material properties, and environmental considerations. Level 3 advances students’ understanding through CAD II, highway technology, mechanics of fluids, structural theory, surveying II, and a general education elective, focusing on fluid mechanics, structural analysis, and transportation infrastructure. Level 4 offers specialized courses in hydraulics, project solutions in civil engineering, reinforced concrete and masonry design, soils and foundations, introduction to GPS, computer-aided land development, and a general education elective, preparing students for complex civil engineering projects and the use of modern technologies. Throughout the program, students develop skills in engineering drawing, surveying, project management, material testing, and infrastructure design, with a strong emphasis on sustainable and safe practices. Graduates are well-prepared to enter the workforce as civil engineering technicians, capable of supporting the design, construction, and maintenance of communities and public infrastructure using current industry technologies and methods.
