COURSE CURRICULUM

The Carpentry program at Conestoga is structured across four levels, providing students with comprehensive knowledge and hands-on skills necessary for a career in residential and light commercial construction. Level 1 introduces foundational courses such as college reading and writing, Conestoga 101, new construction theory and practice, plans, specifications and codes, and estimating and calculations, equipping students with essential skills for building and construction projects. Level 2 builds on this foundation with courses in client relations, advanced new construction theory and practice, and metal cutting and welding, which enhance both technical and interpersonal skills needed in the industry. In Level 3, students focus on renovation with courses covering renovation theory and practice, plans, specifications and codes, building science, and a general education elective, preparing them to work on updating and improving existing structures. Level 4 completes the program with advanced renovation business practices, renovation theory II, renovation practice II, and a general education elective, emphasizing project management, business operations, and advanced renovation techniques. Throughout the program, students gain practical experience working on interior and exterior construction projects, learning to read and interpret plans, apply building codes, and use various tools and techniques for both new construction and renovation. This comprehensive curriculum ensures graduates are well-prepared for diverse roles within the construction industry, with opportunities to enter the workforce directly or pursue apprenticeships.
