COURSE CURRICULUM

The two-year Broadcast – Radio and New Media diploma program at Conestoga offers students a hands-on, immersive experience in modern broadcasting and content creation. Throughout the program, students develop a wide range of industry-relevant skills, including announcing, voice acting, podcasting, news reporting, sports media, digital marketing, and social media content creation. In the first year, foundational courses such as Announcing Lab, Writing for On-Air, Audio and Video Editing, and Social Media and Digital Marketing set the stage for students to understand the core principles of media production. As students progress to the second year, they engage in advanced audio production techniques, sports media coverage, and content creation through courses like Technology 2 – Advanced Audio Production and Integrated Media Technology. The third and fourth levels emphasize practical applications and professional development with courses such as Radio Lab 1 and 2, Advanced News Reporting, Sales and Promotions, Media Freelancing and Entrepreneurship, and Podcasting and Feature Production. Students also explore multi-channel audio production and complete a field placement that connects them with industry professionals and real-world media environments. Safety training and general education electives support a well-rounded learning experience. Students gain hands-on experience broadcasting live on Q2 or CJIQ 88.3 FM, one of Canada’s largest campus stations, ensuring their readiness for today’s competitive broadcast and digital media landscape. This program equips graduates with the confidence, technical skills, and industry connections necessary to thrive in roles across radio, podcasting, content creation, and media production.
