COURSE CURRICULUM

The two-year Biotechnology Technician diploma program at Conestoga offers a rigorous and hands-on curriculum designed to prepare students for dynamic careers in the biotechnology and life sciences sectors. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through courses like Introductory Chemistry for Life Sciences, Introduction to Microbiology, Laboratory Procedures and Safety, Molecular Biology, Organic Chemistry, and Quality Management Practices. Mathematical and statistical competencies are also developed through Algebra and Statistics for Life Sciences. In the second year, the program shifts to advanced technical skills, beginning with Biochemistry, Immunology, Applied Analytical Chemistry, and a Life Science Research Project. A strong focus on professionalism and career preparation is embedded through courses like Professionalism and Career Success for Life Sciences. In the final term, students deepen their expertise with specialized courses in Applied Molecular Biology, Microbiology for Biotechnology, Plant Cell Biotechnology, Fermentation and Industrial Processes, and a capstone Life Sciences Research Project II, which allows for practical application of all accumulated knowledge. Elective general education courses across all levels promote broader thinking and communication skills.
