COURSE CURRICULUM

Conestoga’s two-year Animation diploma program offers a structured and immersive learning experience across four levels, equipping students with the essential skills to thrive in the 2D digital animation industry. In Level 1, students build foundational abilities in figure drawing, storyboarding, digital tools, and 2D character animation, while also developing visual storytelling and composition skills through courses such as principles of layout and college reading and writing. Level 2 deepens this foundation with more advanced figure drawing, character design, digital painting, and the continuation of 2D animation techniques. Storyboarding and design courses enhance students' ability to plan, conceptualize, and execute animated sequences effectively. In Level 3, students transition into more technical aspects of animation, including 2D character rigging, advanced character animation, and capstone pre-production. A strong emphasis is placed on professional development with portfolio development and presentation and safety in the workplace. Level 4 is the culmination of the program, where students finalize their capstone project, complete an industry-integrated field placement, and develop career readiness through portfolio strategies and workplace simulation. They also explore 3D animation fundamentals and select a program-specific elective to tailor their learning. Throughout the program, students are supported by experienced faculty and access to industry-standard tools. By graduation, they are prepared with a demo reel, polished portfolio, and hands-on experience that positions them for careers in television, film, advertising, gaming, or online content creation, where strong 2D animation skills are in demand.
