COURSE CURRICULUM

The Welder and Metal Fabricator – Fitter Level 1 program at Conestoga College offers a comprehensive foundation in welding and metal fabrication skills essential for a successful career in the trades. In the first level, students engage in practical and theoretical courses such as Computer Applications, Engineering Drawing Interpretation, and Trade Calculations, which build essential technical knowledge. Core welding courses include Welding Process Theory, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Semi-Automatic Welding, and Thermal Cutting and Brazing, providing hands-on experience with common welding techniques and equipment. This solid foundation prepares students to effectively perform welding tasks and understand the principles behind different welding processes. In Level 2, the curriculum advances with courses like CAD for Fabrication Technology, Trade Calculations II, and Welding Processes Theory II, which deepen students' understanding of welding and fabrication design, measurement, and process control. Additional welding courses focus on Shielded Metal Arc Welding II, Semi-Automatic Welding II, Welding Quality and Inspection, and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, enhancing technical proficiency and quality assurance skills. An Introduction to Metal Fabrication course rounds out the program by expanding students’ knowledge of fabrication techniques and industry standards. Together, these courses equip students with the expertise to excel in welding and metal fabrication trades, preparing them for apprenticeship training or employment in a variety of manufacturing and construction environments.
