COURSE CURRICULUM

The Renewable Energy Techniques certificate program is structured into two levels that provide students with a blend of foundational knowledge and specialized skills in renewable energy systems. In Level 1, students begin with College Reading & Writing Across Contexts (COMM1085) and Conestoga 101 (CON0101) to support their academic and college success. They gain practical skills through Introduction to AutoCAD (DRWG1355), which introduces technical drawing essential for system design. Photovoltaic Grid Design: Residential and Small Commercial (ERGY1000) focuses on solar power system layout and design, while Energy Storage and Management (ERGY1010) covers battery technologies and system optimization. Mathematics for Technical Applications (MATH1640) equips students with the necessary math skills, and Energy and Electricity Fundamentals (TECH1300) provides the electrical theory critical to renewable energy work. Level 2 advances students’ expertise with courses like Hydro, Wind, Fuel Cell and Biofuel Renewable Energy Concepts and Practices (ERGY1030), expanding knowledge of diverse renewable energy sources. Micro-Grid and Energy Storage (ERGY1040) emphasizes advanced energy management and integration, while Grounding and Installation (ERGY1050) focuses on safe electrical practices and system installation. Renewable Thermal Technology (ERGY1060) explores solar thermal and other heat-based renewable systems. Introduction to Occupational Health, Safety and Hazard Assessment (OHS1431) teaches vital workplace safety protocols. Lastly, Building Green (TECH1430) covers sustainable construction practices and green building standards. Together, these courses prepare students with both theoretical understanding and hands-on skills to excel in the growing renewable energy industry.
