COURSE CURRICULUM

The Media Foundations certificate program at Conestoga College is structured into two levels, offering a comprehensive introduction to various aspects of media and communication. In Level 1, students develop essential academic and communication skills through courses like College Reading & Writing Across Contexts (COMM1085) and Foundations in Presentation Skills - Media (COMM1837). Conestoga 101 (CON0101) helps students transition into college life, while Media Tools and Technology I (MDIA1010) introduces them to the hardware and software used in media production. Ethical considerations are explored in Introduction to Media Ethics (MDIA1100), and practical editing skills are taught in Introduction to Audio and Video Editing (MDIA1110). Additionally, students gain insights into online engagement and promotion through Social Media and Digital Marketing (MKT1495). In Level 2, the focus shifts toward developing specialized media skills. Writing for Media Basics (COMM1645) strengthens content writing skills specific to media platforms, while Digital Imaging and Visual Literacy (MDIA1020) enhances visual communication abilities. Media Tools and Technology II (MDIA1040) builds on the first-level course by advancing technical proficiency. The Art of Storytelling (MDIA1095) fosters narrative development across various media forms, and Introduction to Web Platforms (MDIA1120) equips students with the fundamentals of web content and publishing. Creative Thinking and Content Generation (MDIA1130) encourages innovation and originality in producing media content. Collectively, these courses prepare students with foundational knowledge, technical skills, and creative capabilities necessary for success in the media industry or for further study in advanced programs such as Journalism, TV, Radio, and Esports & Event Media Production.
