COURSE CURRICULUM

The one-year Human Services Foundations certificate program is designed to equip students with essential academic and interpersonal skills required for success in human service careers. In Level 1, students build a strong foundation with courses such as College Reading & Writing Across Contexts, Student Success Strategies, and Interpersonal Behaviour and Human Services, fostering effective communication and self-awareness. Career Exploration in Human Services introduces students to various professional pathways, while Essential Mathematics and Developmental Psychology provide critical analytical and developmental insights necessary for understanding human behavior. Level 2 expands on these skills through courses like Foundations in Presentation Skills, Social Issues in Human Services, and Group Dynamics, allowing students to engage with real-world social challenges and collaborative practices. Understanding Diversity and Applied Human Services Practices deepen students’ awareness of cultural and societal factors influencing client needs. Electives and program options further tailor learning to individual goals, complemented by courses in Digital Literacy and Math for Data Management that develop technological competence and quantitative skills vital in today’s human services landscape.
