COURSE CURRICULUM

The Design Foundations program is structured over two levels to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to applied design and visual communications. In Level 1, students begin by exploring fundamental design concepts through courses such as Introduction to Design, Creative Process I, and Introduction to Digital Design. These courses build foundational skills in both traditional and digital design techniques. Additional courses like Design History and Illustration 1 deepen students’ understanding of the evolution of design and develop their drawing skills, while College Reading & Writing Across Contexts and Conestoga 101 support essential academic and communication abilities. Moving into Level 2, the curriculum focuses on advancing practical skills and creative development. Life Drawing and 2D and 3D Design courses enhance observational drawing and spatial design capabilities, while Digital Production introduces students to the tools and processes of digital media creation. Creative Process II encourages deeper exploration of idea development and innovation. Portfolio and Design Presentation Skills prepares students to effectively showcase their work, an essential aspect of success in the design field. Photography 1 complements the program by adding visual storytelling and technical photography skills. Overall, this blend of courses ensures students gain a balanced mix of creative, technical, and communication skills, preparing them for further education or entry-level positions in design and visual communications. Through hands-on projects and focused study, students develop a strong portfolio and a solid foundation for a career in this dynamic industry.
