The Construction Techniques certificate program at Conestoga offers a comprehensive introduction to essential trades, structured over two levels to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. In Level 1, students focus on foundational courses such as College Reading & Writing Across Contexts and Conestoga 101 to support academic success. They also learn to interpret technical drawings in Introduction to Print Reading, a crucial skill for all construction trades. The program emphasizes hands-on training through HVAC Mechanical Systems Theory and Practice, where students gain an understanding of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Welding Theory and Practice further build technical skills necessary for fabrication and repair work in various construction settings. Level 2 expands students’ expertise with practical and theoretical courses in masonry and plumbing. Computer Applications are introduced to enhance digital literacy relevant to the trades, while Masonry Theory and Practice teach the fundamentals of working with brick, stone, and mortar. Plumbing Theory and Practice cover essential techniques for residential and commercial plumbing systems. Additionally, Math for Construction equips students with the numerical skills needed to perform accurate measurements and calculations on the job.
