COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sustainable Design Engineering (SDE) program offers a comprehensive curriculum that integrates sustainability principles into engineering education through a combination of foundational science, mathematics, and specialized engineering courses. In the first two years, students build essential skills with courses like Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Foundations, and Programming Principles, alongside introductory projects focused on building science and sustainable engineering design. As students progress to Levels 3 and 4, the program emphasizes advanced technical topics such as Advanced Calculus, Statics, Strength of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Numerical Methods, and Structural Analysis, complemented by electives in areas like Heating and Cooling Load Calculations, Soil Mechanics, Green Rating Systems, Construction Materials, and Environmental Design. Project-based courses at each level, including Architectural and Civil Engineering Fundamentals, provide practical experience in integrated design processes. The curriculum also features mandatory cooperative education work terms in Levels 5, 6, and 9, ensuring real-world industry exposure. In later levels, students engage with specialized courses such as Sustainable Materials, Advanced Building Performance, Renewable Energy Design, Civil Infrastructure Rehabilitation, and Project Management for Green Developments. Electives allow customization in topics like Artificial Intelligence, Finite Element Analysis, Water Supply and Wastewater, and Life Cycle Assessment. Business and management skills are incorporated through courses in Economics for Engineers, Law and Ethics, Financial Accounting, and Construction Management. Overall, the SDE program equips students with a holistic understanding of engineering solutions that balance environmental, economic, and social impacts, preparing graduates to lead in sustainable infrastructure, building design, and environmental stewardship, supported by interdisciplinary learning, advanced technologies, and extensive practical experience.
