COURSE CURRICULUM

The Power Systems Engineering (PSE) program at Conestoga is a rigorous, four-year Bachelor’s degree designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required for careers in electrical power and industrial automation sectors. Beginning with foundational courses such as Engineering Drawing, Basic Electrical and Magnetic Circuits, Math, Physics, and Electronic Foundations, students progressively advance through core subjects including DC Motors and Transformers, AC Motors and Generators, Electrical Code for Safety and Power, Sensors, Actuators and Instrumentation, and Power Systems Analysis. Throughout the program, students engage in multiple engineering projects that build practical, hands-on experience while integrating theoretical concepts. Project management, programming principles, and science, technology, and society topics further develop critical professional skills. The curriculum also incorporates interdisciplinary and program elective courses, allowing students to tailor their learning to specific interests such as manufacturing processes, welding, and control systems. Co-operative education work terms are strategically placed in Levels 3, 7, and 9, providing students with valuable industry exposure and applied experience in power systems engineering. Advanced courses in renewable energy, power transmission and distribution, protection and control for power systems, power electronic solutions, and electric vehicles prepare students to address modern energy challenges and sustainability goals. Economics for Engineers and Law, Ethics, and Professional Practice courses equip students with essential business acumen and professional standards knowledge. Upon graduation, students are prepared to meet academic requirements for professional engineering licensure in Canada, ready to pursue careers in electrical engineering, industrial automation, power systems design, and maintenance, contributing to innovative and sustainable power infrastructure.
