COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering – Mechanical Systems Engineering (MSE) program at Conestoga College is a CEAB-accredited, honours-level degree designed to prepare students for diverse careers in fields such as robotics, manufacturing, automation, and environmental technologies. The curriculum combines mechanical, industrial, and control engineering, emphasizing hands-on, project-based learning throughout its 11 academic levels and three co-op work terms. Students begin with foundational courses in calculus, physics, materials science, and engineering drawing, progressing to advanced topics such as fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, control systems, machine design, and electronics. Yearly design projects challenge students to integrate theory with practice, culminating in a major capstone project in the final year. Students also develop expertise in programming, project management, and applied mathematics, including advanced calculus, differential equations, and numerical methods. A unique aspect of the program is the opportunity to specialize in a major in Joining or Welding after the second year, gaining hands-on experience in state-of-the-art labs and learning about welding processes, metallurgy, additive manufacturing, and non-destructive evaluation. The program also includes a wide selection of technical and interdisciplinary electives, enabling students to tailor their education toward areas such as AI, embedded systems, composite materials, robotics, and quality assurance. Co-op placements are strategically integrated to provide real-world industry experience and contribute to the requirements for Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) licensure. The curriculum blends theory and application with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and business fundamentals, preparing graduates to become adaptive, industry-ready engineers capable of designing and managing complex, computer-controlled mechanical systems. With an emphasis on both technical and soft skills, the MSE program cultivates leadership, problem-solving, and interdisciplinary collaboration, ensuring graduates are well-equipped for dynamic careers in Canada’s evolving engineering and advanced manufacturing sectors.
