COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Community and Criminal Justice (Honours) program offers a comprehensive interdisciplinary curriculum designed to prepare students for careers in community safety, justice, and social well-being. At Level 1, foundational courses such as Introduction to Social Justice, Criminology, and Psychology: Basic Processes of Behaviour set the stage for understanding social and legal frameworks. Level 2 deepens this knowledge with courses in Applied Ethics in Criminal Justice, Restorative Justice, Canadian Law and Legal System I, and Personal and Professional Orientations to Practice, emphasizing ethical practice and legal systems. In Level 3, students study Interpersonal Communications, Interviewing and Facilitation Skills, Canadian Criminal Justice System, Canadian Law II, and Developmental Psychology to build practical and legal expertise. Level 4 offers courses like Youth Justice, Crime Prevention and Community Safety, Health and Wellness, and co-op preparation to enhance readiness for fieldwork. Levels 5 and 6 focus on applied learning with Field Placements, Safety in the Workplace, Trauma Recovery, Diversity in Justice, Indigenous-Settler Relations, Human Rights, and Applied Research methods, fostering hands-on experience and critical analysis. In Level 7, students participate in a justice-focused co-op work term. Levels 8 and 9 include advanced topics such as Offender Assessment, Principled Leadership, Public Policy, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Investigation, Mental Health and Addictions, and a two-part Capstone Applied Research Project, integrating knowledge and research skills. Throughout the program, students select interdisciplinary electives, enabling a well-rounded education that equips them with the theoretical understanding, ethical framework, and practical skills needed for success in a dynamic community and criminal justice field.
