COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Applied Biotechnology (Honours) program offers a comprehensive curriculum spanning ten levels, designed to equip students with the scientific knowledge and practical skills needed for careers in biotechnology and life sciences. In the early levels, students build foundational knowledge with courses such as Cell Biology, Introductory Chemistry I and II, Microbiology I, Math for Biotechnology, Scientific and Technical Communications, and Probability and Statistics, along with career success strategies and research fundamentals. Progressing to intermediate levels, the program covers advanced topics including Microbiology II, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Calculus for Biotechnology, Molecular Biology I and II, Plant Biology, Applied Chemistry, and Physics. Students also explore management concepts and interdisciplinary electives to broaden their understanding. At more advanced stages, students engage in Biochemistry I and II, Instrumental Analysis Theory and Laboratory courses, Environmental Toxicology, Regulatory Affairs and Biosafety, and Lean Six Sigma for process improvement. Two co-op work terms at Levels 7 and 8 provide students with real-world experience, integrating academic knowledge with practical application in professional environments. The final levels focus on specialized subjects such as Immunology, Cell Culture, Virology, Advanced Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Industrial Processes and Materials, and Finance, preparing students for diverse roles in the industry. The program culminates in two capstone courses, where students undertake significant research projects that integrate their learning and demonstrate their ability to apply biotechnology principles. Throughout the program, students select interdisciplinary electives to tailor their education and develop critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills essential for success in team-oriented biotechnology careers. This structured curriculum balances theoretical study with applied learning and professional development to produce well-rounded graduates ready for the evolving challenges of the biotechnology sector.
