COURSE CURRICULUM

The 4-year Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at Concordia University of Edmonton requires 45–60 credits within the major and offers a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum designed to develop strong analytical, theoretical, and applied mathematical skills. Students begin with foundational courses MAT 114 and 115 (Calculus I and II), MAT 120 (Linear Algebra I), and MAT 151 (Discrete Mathematics), followed by MAT 200 (Calculus III), MAT 214 and MAT 215 (Linear Algebra II and Differential Equations), and MAT 224 and MAT 228, which cover mathematical reasoning and proof techniques. Advanced coursework includes MAT 331 (Probability and Statistics), 9 credits in 400-level mathematics courses to deepen expertise in specialized topics, and 6–12 credits of additional senior-level mathematics courses to support individual academic interests. In addition to the math core, students must complete 6 credits in IT or CMPT to develop computational literacy, 3 credits in English to enhance communication skills, and DRA 252 to strengthen presentation abilities. Science requirements include one physics course (PHY 111, 121, or 131) and either ECO 101 or 102 to introduce economic reasoning, along with AIT 100. All minors listed in section 10.6 are permitted, except for Mathematics. The degree requires a minimum of 66 credits within the Faculty of Science, with suggested electives provided for students pursuing an Arts minor. A full course load is 30 credits per academic year, but students taking at least 9 credits per term maintain full-time status. First-year students should prioritize highlighted (+) courses to build a strong academic foundation.
