COURSE CURRICULUM

The program consists of 60 credits over two years. Year 1 includes foundational courses such as Educational Psychology, Curriculum and Instruction in Elementary/Secondary Education, Inclusive Education, and Introduction to Teaching. Students also complete a practicum orientation and initial field experience. Year 2 advances with specialized courses like Assessment and Evaluation, Technology in Education, Indigenous Perspectives in Education, and subject-specific methods for secondary route students (e.g., Math, Science, Social Studies). Elementary route focuses on integrated curriculum approaches across subjects. The program culminates in an extended practicum where students take on full teaching responsibilities. Additional components include professional seminars on ethics, legal issues in education, and reflective practice. Electives may be available based on route selection. The curriculum is designed to meet Alberta's teacher certification requirements, emphasizing practical application and theoretical knowledge.
