COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sociology major at Concordia University of Edmonton requires 42–60 credits and provides students with a comprehensive foundation in sociological theory, research methods, and the analysis of social issues. Core requirements include SOC 100, 3 credits from SOC 101, 102, or INDG 111, SOC 210 (or an equivalent such as MAT 151 or PSY 211), SOC 315, SOC 332 and 333, 6 credits from SOC 260, 301, 368, or 375, and SOC 405. Students must also complete 3 credits from advanced courses such as SOC 402, 428, 441, 471, 472, 473, 475, or 480, along with 12 credits of unspecified senior-level SOC courses, and up to 18 additional SOC credits (no more than 3 at the junior level). To ensure interdisciplinary learning, students must also complete 6 credits in English, 6 credits from the Faculty of Science, and AIT 100. All minors listed in section 10.6 are permitted except Sociology; WRI 300 is strongly recommended to enhance academic writing and research skills. A sample course sequence is provided as a guide, but students are encouraged to tailor their academic path based on interests and course availability. Not all courses are offered each semester, so planning ahead is essential. While the standard full course load is 30 credits per academic year, students may opt for a lighter load, taking as few as 9 credits per term to maintain full-time status. Those doing so are advised to prioritize highlighted (+) first-year courses to ensure steady progress toward graduation.
