COURSE CURRICULUM

The Religious Studies major at Concordia University of Edmonton requires 36–60 credits and offers a rich, interdisciplinary exploration of religious thought, traditions, and their influence on society. Students begin with 6 credits from REL 101, 102, or 103, followed by 3 credits from REL 252 or 253. Core requirements also include 6 credits from REL 232, 233, 234, 235, 303, 321, 323, 337, 362, or 367; 6 credits from REL 224, 248, 274, 302, 339, 340, 359, 369, or 399; and 6 credits from REL 209, 275, 290, 291, 305, 306, 307, 312, or 373. REL 499 is a required capstone course. Students must also complete 6–30 credits of unspecified senior-level REL courses, which may include up to 6 credits of POPC. Additional requirements include 6 credits from the Departments of Social Sciences and/or Psychology (e.g., CNST, ECO, HIS, INDG, POEC, PSCI, PSY, SOC), 6 credits from the Faculty of Science, and AIT 100. Students may pursue any minor listed in section 10.6 except Religious Studies. It is recommended that students complete at least 6 credits in English, 6 in Philosophy (especially PHIL 290), 3 in Fine Arts, and 3 in Classics. Those focusing on specific areas such as Biblical Studies or Christian History are strongly advised to take at least 6 credits in a relevant language (e.g., Hebrew, Greek, Latin, French, or German). A full course load is 30 credits per year, but students may take as few as 9 credits per semester to maintain full-time status, adjusting timelines as needed.
