COURSE CURRICULUM

The 4-year Philosophy major at Concordia University of Edmonton requires 42–60 credits in Philosophy, offering a comprehensive foundation in both historical and contemporary areas of the discipline. Required courses include PHIL 125, PHIL 102 or 202, and one of PHIL 101, 201, 250, 270, 350, or 373 to explore major philosophical figures or themes. Students must also take one of PHIL 200, 205, or 215, along with core courses PHIL 240 and PHIL 241, which focus on logic and ethics. To deepen their understanding, students complete 9 credits of 300-level Philosophy and at least one 400-level Philosophy course. Additionally, students must complete 12–30 more Philosophy credits, allowing them to tailor their studies toward personal or professional interests, with a maximum of 3 credits at the junior level. Beyond the Philosophy major, students must fulfill general liberal arts requirements including 6 credits from the Faculty of Science (ideally from two disciplines), 6 credits from the Social Sciences or Psychology (again, two disciplines recommended), and AIT 100. Though not mandatory, it is strongly recommended that students also complete 6 credits in English, 6 in Religious Studies, 3 in Fine Arts, and 3 in Classics to enrich their academic breadth. Students are advised to plan their course sequence carefully, checking the availability of courses each term and adhering to all academic regulations found in the Concordia Calendar. A full course load is 30 credits per year, but taking fewer is acceptable. Nine credits per term are required to maintain full-time status.
