COURSE CURRICULUM

The 4-year Bachelor of Arts in Music major at Concordia University of Edmonton requires 45–60 credits within the discipline, offering an in-depth, classically-focused education designed to cultivate both performance and academic excellence in music. Students begin with foundational applied music and ensemble courses, selecting credits from MUPB, MUPG, MUPK, MUPP, MUPS, MUPV, MUPW, or MUPE offerings across junior and senior levels. Core theoretical coursework includes MUS 211, 212, 213, and 214, with MUS 120 or MUS 100 required if theory proficiency is insufficient. Students must also complete 6 credits from MUS 295, 315, 316, 321, 361, or MUS 370-series, and 6 credits from MUS 281, 282, or MUS 380-series. A capstone course, MUS 490, and a major project or recital through options such as MUPB/MUS 495 and 496, are also required. An additional 9–18 credits of senior-level music courses and 0–6 elective credits round out the major. Beyond music-specific courses, students complete 6 credits in English, 3 credits in Philosophy or Religious Studies, 3 credits in a language other than English, and 3 credits in Fine Arts outside of Music. Broader academic requirements include 6 credits from Social Sciences or Psychology, 6 credits from the Faculty of Science, and AIT 100. A minimum of 12 music-related credits must be completed at Concordia.
