COURSE CURRICULUM

The English major at Concordia University of Edmonton requires 42–60 credits, offering a well-rounded and rigorous curriculum. Students begin with 6 junior-level English credits, with ENG 120 and ENG 121 recommended. They must then take 6 credits from ENG 323, 324, 330, 331, 338, or 339; 6 credits from ENG 340, 344, 349, 350, 354, or 356; and one course each from ENG 365, 366, or 367; ENG 381, 382, 383, 384, or 388; and ENG 392, 393, 394, or 395. Students must also take one writing-focused course from WRI 300, 310, 391, or 392, and 6 credits from advanced options including ENG 401–425, ENG 480, ENG 491, 492, or WRI 401. In addition, 6–24 credits of unspecified senior-level English or Writing courses are required, allowing students to tailor their studies. Beyond English-specific courses, students must complete 6 credits from departments such as Fine Arts, Philosophy, Religious Studies, or non-English language and literature courses; 6 credits from the Faculty of Science; 6 credits from Social Sciences or Psychology; and AIT 100. English majors may pursue any minor listed in section 10.6 of the academic calendar, excluding English. While a sample course sequence is provided, students are encouraged to plan their studies around course availability and personal interests. A full course load is 30 credits per Fall/Winter session, but students are still considered full-time with at least 9 credits per semester. First-year students should prioritize highlighted (+) recommended courses when registering.
