COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sociology concentration at Concordia University of Edmonton requires 24–30 credits, including SOC 100, SOC 210 (or equivalent: MAT 151 or PSY 211), SOC 315, SOC 332, and SOC 405, along with 9–15 credits of unspecified SOC courses, with no more than 3 credits at the junior level. This program equips students with a solid foundation in sociological theory, research methods, and critical analysis of social issues. In addition to the core sociology requirements, students must complete 6 credits in the Faculty of Science, 6 credits in English, and 6 credits in courses offered by Fine Arts, Literature and Language, or Philosophy and Religious Studies (e.g., ARAB, ENG, MUS, PHIL, REL, WRI, etc.). AIT 100 is also required. Students may choose any minor listed in section 10.6, except Sociology, and WRI 300 is strongly recommended to strengthen research and writing skills. A sample course sequence is provided to assist with planning, but flexibility is encouraged based on course availability and personal interests. Students may study part-time, though at least 9 credits per semester are required for full-time status. Those taking lighter course loads are advised to prioritize the highlighted (+) first-year courses to remain on track.
