COURSE CURRICULUM

The Religious Studies concentration at Concordia University of Edmonton requires 27–33 credits and offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to understanding religion’s influence on human life and society. Students begin by selecting 6 credits from REL 101, 102, or 103, followed by 3 credits from REL 252 or 253. They then take 3 credits from a list including REL 232, 233, 234, 235, 303, 321, 323, 337, 362, or 367; 6 credits from REL 224, 248, 274, 302, 339, 340, 359, 369, or 399; and another 6 credits from REL 209, 275, 290, 291, 305, 306, 307, 312, or 373. REL 499 is a required capstone course, and students may take an additional 0–6 credits from unspecified POPC or senior-level REL courses. In addition to concentration-specific courses, students must complete 6 credits from the Departments of Social Sciences and/or Psychology (such as CNST, ECO, HIS, INDG, POEC, PSCI, PSY, or SOC), 6 credits from the Faculty of Science, and AIT 100. While students may choose from any minor listed in section 10.6—excluding Religious Studies—a minimum of 6 credits in English, 6 in Philosophy, 3 in Fine Arts, and 3 in Classics is recommended to enrich the interdisciplinary foundation. A sample course sequence is available, but students should plan based on course availability and personal interests. Full-time status requires at least 9 credits per semester, though students may take fewer and extend their program timeline. Prioritizing recommended (+) first-year courses is advised for those starting with a lighter course load.
