COURSE CURRICULUM

The 3-year Philosophy concentration at Concordia University of Edmonton requires 24–30 credits, designed to offer students a solid foundation in both the history and core areas of philosophical inquiry. Students begin by completing PHIL 102 or PHIL 202, followed by PHIL 125, PHIL 240, and PHIL 241, which introduce logic, ethics, and key philosophical traditions. At least one 400-level Philosophy course is required to ensure engagement with advanced material. Students must also complete 9–15 additional credits of Philosophy, with a maximum of 3 credits at the junior level, allowing flexibility to explore topics such as metaphysics, philosophy of science, political philosophy, or contemporary issues. Beyond Philosophy, students are required to take 6 credits from the Faculty of Science (ideally split across two disciplines) and 6 credits from the departments of Social Science and/or Psychology (again, preferably from two distinct areas), along with AIT 100. While not mandatory, students are strongly encouraged to complete 6 credits in English, 6 in Religious Studies, 3 in Fine Arts, and 3 in Classics to enrich their academic experience. Careful program planning is essential, as course offerings vary by term, and prerequisites may apply. Students are responsible for understanding and fulfilling all academic regulations as outlined in the Concordia University of Edmonton Calendar. A full-time course load is 30 credits per academic year, though students may choose a lighter load depending on their individual goals.
