COURSE CURRICULUM

The 3-year Music concentration at Concordia University of Edmonton requires 30–33 credits and is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in applied music, theory, and music history while encouraging individual growth and artistic expression. Students begin by selecting 3 credits from a broad range of applied music or ensemble courses, including various MUPB, MUPG, MUPK, MUPP, MUPS, MUPV, MUPW, or MUPE options. Core theoretical components include MUS 211 and MUS 213, with MUS 120 or MUS 100 possibly required based on the student’s proficiency in music theory. Students must also complete 3 credits from either MUS 281 or MUS 282, and MUS 490, a senior-level capstone course. An additional 9 credits of senior-level music or performance-based courses and 7.5–10.5 credits of junior- or senior-level music courses further enrich the program. To broaden interdisciplinary understanding, students must also take 6 credits of English, 3 credits from Philosophy and Religious Studies, and 3 credits from Fine Arts (excluding Music). Additional requirements include 6 credits from Social Sciences or Psychology, 6 credits from the Faculty of Science, and AIT 100. At least 9 credits of music coursework must be completed at Concordia. The program supports individual interests and allows students to explore electives such as music education (MUED 213/214), psychology, drama, leadership, and religious studies. With a comprehensive and flexible structure, this concentration equips students for diverse careers in music performance, instruction, or continued academic pursuits.
