COURSE CURRICULUM

The 3-year History concentration at Concordia University of Edmonton requires 24–30 credits and offers students a comprehensive exploration of historical events, movements, and themes across various regions and periods. Core requirements begin with either HIS 111 or HIS 112, followed by HIS 290, which introduces students to historical research methods. Students must then complete one course from HIS 260, 261, 362, 365, 366, 368, 369, or 370, focusing on global or thematic perspectives; one from HIS 207, 208, 212, 213, 218, 309, 315, 333, or 340, which highlights Canadian and American history; and one from HIS 205, 206, 221, 250, 251, 300-series (301, 302, 303), 304, 355, 415, 416, or 464, covering European and world history topics. HIS 410, a capstone seminar, is also required. Students complete an additional 6–12 credits from either INDG 340 or other senior-level HIS courses, with a minimum of 12 credits at the 300- or 400-level to ensure depth of study. To support interdisciplinary learning, students must also complete 3 junior-level credits in English, 3 credits from Fine Arts, Philosophy, Religious Studies, or other language and literature courses (excluding additional history), and 6 credits from the Faculty of Science. This well-rounded academic structure ensures that students develop strong analytical, research, and communication skills. The History concentration provides an excellent foundation for careers in education, public service, journalism, law, and more, or for further studies at the graduate level. Careful course planning is encouraged, as not all courses are offered every semester.
