COURSE CURRICULUM

The English concentration at Concordia University of Edmonton requires 24–30 credits, structured to provide both depth and flexibility. Students begin with 6 credits of junior-level English, with ENG 120 and ENG 121 recommended. They must then select one course from each of the following groups: ENG 303, 323, 331, 338, 339, 350, or 354; ENG 324, 330, 340, 343, 344, 355, or 356; and one from the advanced-level series ENG 401–425, ENG 491, 492, or WRI 401. In addition, students complete 9–15 credits of senior-level English courses of their choice. Beyond the core English requirements, students must take 3 credits from Fine Arts, Philosophy, Religious Studies, or Literature and Languages (excluding English or Writing), 6 credits from Social Sciences and/or Psychology, 6 credits from the Faculty of Science, and AIT 100. Students may pursue any minor listed in section 10.6 of the academic calendar except English. Academic planning should reflect both the degree requirements and the student’s personal interests, and students are responsible for understanding prerequisites, co-requisites, and regulations outlined in section 4.0 of the Calendar. It is also the student’s responsibility to ensure all required courses are completed to graduate, as per section 10.0. A sample course sequence is available as a general guide; however, individual timelines may vary, especially since not all courses are offered every term. A full course load is 30 credits over Fall/Winter, but students taking at least 9 credits per semester are still considered full-time. First-year students are encouraged to prioritize (+) recommended courses.
