COURSE CURRICULUM

The Associate of Arts Degree in Psychology requires the completion of 20 courses (minimum 60 credits) at the first- and second-year levels, meeting all Associate of Arts degree requirements. The curriculum begins with foundational first-year courses, PSYC 110 (Introductory Psychology I) and PSYC 120 (Introductory Psychology II), which provide an essential overview of psychological concepts and theories. At the second-year level, students complete four to five psychology courses including core courses such as PSYC 217 (Research Methods in Psychology) and PSYC 218 (Introduction to Data Analysis in the Behavioural Sciences). To ensure interdisciplinary breadth, students must also take at least two courses outside the field of Psychology, fulfilling the requirement of at least six second-year Arts courses (minimum 18 credits) across two or more subject areas. Students choose three additional psychology electives from options like PSYC 210 (Introductory Child Psychology), PSYC 220 (Behaviour Disorders), PSYC 240 (Social Psychology), PSYC 270 (Theories of Personality), PSYC 281 (Biological Psychology), and PSYC 299 (Introduction to Eco-psychology). This comprehensive curriculum builds a strong foundation in psychological theory, research, and data analysis, while fostering critical thinking and communication skills. Graduates are prepared for transfer to Bachelor’s degree programs or entry into careers in counseling, social services, healthcare, and other psychology-related fields.
