COURSE CURRICULUM

The Associate of Arts Degree in Political Science requires the completion of 20 courses (minimum 60 credits) at the first- and second-year levels, fulfilling all Associate of Arts degree requirements. The curriculum begins with foundational first-year courses including PSCI 100 (Introduction to Political Science) and PSCI 101 (Introduction to Canadian Government), providing students with a solid grounding in political systems and governance. At the second-year level, students complete at least six Political Science courses, including core classes such as PSCI 240 (Introduction to Political Theory) and PSCI 251 (Introduction to Public Administration). Additionally, students choose one course from either PSCI 202 (Introduction to Comparative Politics) or PSCI 210 (Introduction to International Relations and Global Politics), followed by courses such as PSCI 252 (Introduction to the Politics of the City), PSCI 253 (Introduction to Public Policy), and PSCI 260 (Decolonizing Development: The Politics of Progress). This comprehensive framework ensures students gain a broad and deep understanding of political theory, policy, and global politics while meeting the minimum 18 credits of second-year Arts courses in multiple subject areas. Graduates are well-prepared for diverse career paths including marketing, communications, public affairs, law enforcement, and government roles, benefiting from strong analytical, research, and communication skills developed throughout the program.
