COURSE CURRICULUM

The Associate of Arts Degree in Environmental Studies requires the completion of at least 20 courses (minimum 60 credits) at the first- and second-year levels, including a minimum of six second-year Arts courses (18 credits) across at least two subject areas, in accordance with Associate of Arts degree requirements. The program begins with foundational first-year courses such as GEOG 100 (Introduction to Human Geography), GEOG 111 (Introduction to Physical Geography), and one first-year Calculus course selected from MATH 111, 113, or 115. These courses establish a solid base in environmental systems, human-environment interactions, and quantitative reasoning. At the second-year level, students deepen their understanding of environmental studies through interdisciplinary courses such as GEOG 200 (Social Geography), GEOG 230 (Environment and Society: The Geography of Environmental Challenges), GEOG 255 (Introduction to Geographic Information Science), and PSCI 275 (Environmental Policy and Sustainable Development). This diverse curriculum integrates perspectives from geography, political science, and environmental science, helping students analyze complex environmental challenges within social, political, and ecological frameworks. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills such as spatial analysis and policy evaluation, the program equips students for further academic study or careers in environmental research, sustainability, urban planning, or public policy.
