COURSE CURRICULUM

The Associate of Arts Degree in Economics requires the successful completion of at least 20 courses (minimum 60 credits) at the first- and second-year levels, including a minimum of six second-year Arts courses (18 credits) across at least two subject areas, fulfilling all Associate of Arts degree requirements. The program begins with foundational first-year courses including ECON 103 (Microeconomics), ECON 105 (Macroeconomics), and two first-year Calculus courses, chosen from MATH 111 and 112, MATH 113 and 114, or MATH 115 and 116. To strengthen students’ quantitative and analytical skills, the program also includes a second-year statistics course, either BUSN 291 (Business & Economics Applications of Statistics) or MATH 206 (Mathematical Statistics). Students must also complete at least three second-year Economics courses from options such as ECON 240 (Money, Banking and Financial Markets), ECON 260 (Environmental Economics), ECON 280 (Introduction to Labour Economics), ECON 290 (Canadian Microeconomic Policy), and ECON 291 (Canadian Macroeconomic Policy). This curriculum provides a well-rounded education in both theoretical and applied economics, preparing students for further academic studies or careers in economics-related fields. The structure ensures exposure to core economic principles, policy analysis, and quantitative reasoning, offering a strong foundation for transfer to a university-level Economics program.
