COURSE CURRICULUM

The Kinesiology Diploma is a comprehensive two-year, 60-credit program designed for students interested in the science of human movement, health, and exercise. In Year 1, Semester 1, students begin with foundational courses including KNES 104: Introduction to Personal Health and Wellbeing, KNES 163: Physical Literacy for Life, and KNES 190: Human Anatomy, each worth 3 credits. They also choose between ENGL 100: English Composition or ENGL 101: Introduction to Poetry and Drama, and either PSYC 101: Introduction to Psychology 1 or BIOL 101: Introduction to Biology 1, bringing the semester total to 15 credits. In Semester 2, students take KNES 102: Introduction to Motor Skill Acquisition, KNES 103: Introduction to Biomechanics, KNES 110: Foundations of Exercise and Physical Fitness, and KNES 201: Sport and Health Policy in Canada, along with either PSYC 102 or BIOL 102, for another 15 credits. Year 2 builds on this foundation with Semester 3 courses such as KNES 200: Functional Anatomy and Physiology 1, KNES 204: Psychology of Sport and Exercise, KNES 209: Research Methods and Inquiry in Kinesiology and Health Services, KNES 203: Introduction to Athletic Injuries, and one elective at the 100 or 200 level, totaling 15 credits. Semester 4 includes KNES 206: Introduction to Exercise Physiology, KNES 202: Physical Growth and Human Development, KNES 205: Nutrition, KNES 210: Functional Anatomy and Physiology 2, and either KNES 270: Exercise Testing and Prescription or a 100/200-level elective, again totaling 15 credits. This well-rounded curriculum equips students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for careers in fitness, health promotion, coaching, or for further study in kinesiology-related degree programs. Completion of all required courses earns students the Kinesiology Diploma and access to valuable industry certifications.
