COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology Diploma curriculum at the College of New Caledonia provides students with a comprehensive understanding of crime, justice, psychology, sociology, law, and research methods. Core courses include Introduction to Criminology, Psychology of Crime and Deviance, Introduction to Criminal Justice, Crime and Deviance, Canadian Law and Legal Systems, Criminal Law, Social Science Research Methods, Composition and Style, Introduction to Psychology I and II, and Introduction to Sociology I and II. Students also develop analytical and communication skills through courses in English, statistics, and philosophy. Elective options allow learners to specialize in areas such as Moral Philosophy, Theory of Knowledge, Political Philosophy, Statistics for Social Sciences, Elementary Statistics, Administration of Justice, and Introduction to Politics and Government. Advanced criminology electives provide insight into contemporary justice issues, including policing in modern society, Canadian corrections, restorative justice, and women, crime, and justice. Most courses are delivered over 15 weeks and carry three credits each. The program combines theoretical knowledge with practical understanding of the justice system, helping students build critical thinking, research, and problem-solving abilities while preparing them for careers in law enforcement, corrections, social services, policy analysis, and further university studies in related disciplines.
