COURSE CURRICULUM

The Information Technology – Systems Administration and Networking Diploma at Coast Mountain College offers a comprehensive, hands-on curriculum over two years, preparing students for careers in IT support, network management, and cybersecurity. In Year 1, students develop foundational technical skills and knowledge essential to the IT field. Courses include Windows Server Management I, where students learn server configuration and management; Information Technology Project Management Essentials, which introduces project planning and coordination; and Virtualization and Cloud Computing I, providing a practical understanding of virtual environments. Students also study Applied Operating Systems and Network Infrastructure Fundamentals to understand the core components of IT systems, while Linux Server Management I introduces open-source server technologies. The first year is rounded out with Introduction to Programming and Introduction to Web Design, giving students basic coding and website development skills. A one-month work experience placement at the end of the first year helps reinforce classroom learning in a real-world setting. In Year 2, the focus shifts to advanced topics and specialization. Students take Information Technology Cybersecurity to understand threats, vulnerabilities, and protection strategies. Windows Server Management II and III build on earlier skills for more complex server tasks. Virtualization and Cloud Computing II and Linux Server Management II explore advanced system administration techniques. Database Administration and Design equips students with skills in managing and organizing data effectively. Network Routing and Switching Essentials I and II introduce Cisco-based networking concepts, routing protocols, and switch configurations, preparing students to manage and secure enterprise networks. By the end of the program, students are equipped with the technical expertise and practical experience needed to succeed in a range of IT roles such as network or systems administrator, cybersecurity analyst, or cloud computing specialist. This diploma provides a strong, locally accessible foundation for launching a successful career in the tech industry.
