COURSE CURRICULUM

The Human Resources Concentration in the Business Administration Diploma program at Coast Mountain College is a comprehensive program designed for students who have completed the Business Administration Certificate and wish to specialize in the dynamic field of human resource management. This concentration prepares students for careers in HR by providing them with essential knowledge and practical skills related to staffing, employee development, performance management, and organizational leadership. Core courses include Management Accounting (ACCT 252), which teaches students how to interpret and apply financial data for internal decision-making, and Business Finance I (BFIN 250), which introduces foundational concepts such as capital budgeting and financial planning. Organizational Behaviour (MGMT 251) explores workplace psychology and team dynamics, laying the groundwork for effective leadership and personnel management. Students also take Business Policy (BPOL 250) or Business Simulation (BSIM 250) to develop strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities. The human resources-focused courses include Human Resource Management (MGMT 255), Recruitment and Selection (MGMT 257), Organizational Training and Development (MGMT 258), Labour Relations (MGMT 253), and Compensation and Benefits (MGMT 259). These courses cover the full employee lifecycle—from hiring and onboarding to retention, performance evaluation, training, and compensation. To round out the program, students choose one second-year Business Administration elective (3 credits), which may also be a university-level course, allowing for some customization based on career interests or academic goals. This concentration not only equips students with HR-specific knowledge but also embeds it within a broader business context, enabling them to understand how HR strategies align with organizational objectives. Graduates of the program will be well-prepared for entry-level and mid-level positions in human resources departments across sectors such as corporate, nonprofit, government, and consulting, or for further academic studies in human resources or business administration.
