COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemistry B.Sc. Honours program requires a total of 20.0 credits. Of these, 11.0 credits are included in the Major CGPA. Students must complete 9.0 credits of core chemistry courses including Enriched General Chemistry 1 and 2, Physical Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, Analytical Chemistry I and II, Introduction to Inorganic and Bioinorganic Chemistry, Quantum Chemistry, Methods in Computational Chemistry, Advanced Organic Chemistry I, Inorganic Chemistry I and II, Chemistry in Practice for the 21st Century, Physical Aspects of Biochemistry, and a 1.0 credit Research Project and Seminar or Honours Essay and Research Proposal. Additionally, 1.0 credit must be chosen from advanced experimental or research-focused chemistry courses such as Experimental Methods in Nanoscience or Analysis of Food Contaminants. Another 1.0 credit in chemistry at the 4000-level is also required. The remaining 9.0 credits are not included in the Major CGPA and consist of supporting courses including 2.0 credits in mathematics (covering calculus, linear algebra, differential equations), 1.0 credit in physics covering mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, and wave motion, 1.0 credit in a science subject outside of chemistry, and 2.0 credits in science courses at the 2000-level or higher. Students also take 0.5 credit in Seminar in Science, 1.5 credits in approved courses outside the faculties of Science and Engineering and Design, and 1.0 credit in free electives. This comprehensive program combines rigorous chemistry coursework with strong foundational knowledge in math, physics, and other sciences to prepare students for advanced research or professional careers.
