COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bioinformatics B.Sc. Honours program requires a total of 20 credits, blending biology, computer science, and mathematics to equip students with interdisciplinary skills essential for analyzing biological data. Within the 12.5 credits included in the major CGPA, students complete foundational biology courses such as Foundations of Biology I and II, Introductory Genetics, Cellular Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics, and specialized bioinformatics courses. The program also includes an Honours research component, which can be fulfilled through a workshop, essay, or thesis. Complementary biology electives cover areas like animal and plant physiology, microbiology, mycology, and human anatomy, while biochemistry courses deepen understanding of metabolism, cellular signaling, and molecular biology. Students also take advanced courses in computer science, including programming, systems programming, software engineering, and web applications, to develop strong computational skills critical for bioinformatics. Additional credits outside the major include chemistry (general and organic), physics (university-level mechanics and electromagnetism), and mathematics/statistics courses such as calculus, linear algebra, and statistical modeling to provide a solid quantitative foundation. The curriculum also requires approved courses outside science, engineering, and design faculties to ensure a well-rounded education. Finally, students complete free electives to customize their learning experience. This comprehensive program prepares graduates to excel in fields such as genomics, drug discovery, and environmental biology by combining theoretical knowledge with practical computational and biological expertise.
