COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics at Carleton University is a comprehensive 21.5-credit program that integrates mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering principles. In the first year, students complete foundational courses such as Chemistry for Engineering Students, Programming and Data Management, Circuits and Mechatronics, Statics, Dynamics, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Electromagnetism, and Wave Motion, along with the Introduction to Engineering Disciplines sequence. Complementary and basic science electives are also included. The second year builds on these fundamentals with courses in Communication Skills for Engineering Students, Circuits and Signals, Electronics I, Electric Machines and Power, Engineering Graphical Design, Engineering Dynamics, Mechanics of Solids, advanced Calculus, and programming and digital systems fundamentals. The third year focuses on advanced topics like Design and Analysis of Engineering Experiments, Engineering Economics, Power Electronics, Integrated Sensors, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, Dynamics of Machinery, Mechatronics I, Machine Design, Real-Time Systems, and Systems Simulation, plus the Engineering Portfolio requirement. In the fourth year, students complete courses in Professional Practice, Mechatronics II, Introduction to Robotics, a significant Engineering Project, Computer Systems Design, Automatic Control Systems I, and Industrial Automation, along with complementary studies and an engineering elective. This program equips students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing them to design, analyze, and build intelligent machines and systems that combine mechanics, electronics, and computing to solve complex engineering challenges.
