COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) at Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business is a comprehensive 20.0-credit program that equips students with foundational and advanced business knowledge, practical experience, and career readiness. Of the total credits, 12.0 are counted towards the major CGPA and include a structured mix of core business courses, quantitative training, and social science exposure. Students begin with introductory courses in Financial Accounting, Information Systems, and Business Fundamentals, along with foundational knowledge in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. Quantitative proficiency is developed through Mathematics for Business and Business Statistics. Social understanding is fostered with courses in Psychology and Sociology specifically tailored for business students. The curriculum continues with essential business subjects such as Managerial Accounting, Marketing, Organizational Behaviour, Operations Management, Data Analytics, Finance, Business Law, International Business, and Entrepreneurship. Upper-year requirements include courses in Human Resources Management, Project Management, Business Ethics, and Strategic Management. Additionally, students must complete at least 1.0 credit of 4000-level business electives to gain depth in specific business areas. The program also integrates a unique career development component known as the Sprott Employability Passport, comprising two non-credit courses (BUSI 1995 and BUSI 3995) that focus on building job-ready skills and professional awareness throughout the four years. Beyond core requirements, students are given the flexibility of 8.0 free elective credits, allowing them to explore interests in other disciplines, add a minor, or deepen their business expertise through specialized courses. The program also supports experiential learning through Co-op, international exchanges, and involvement in Sprott’s many student organizations and consulting opportunities.
