COURSE CURRICULUM

The two-year Music Diploma (Classical) program is structured over four terms, each totaling 15.50 credits. In the first term, students take ENGL 100 (University Writing Strategies, 3.00 credits), MUS 100 (Theory I, 3.00 credits), MUS 112 (Ear Training and Sight Singing I, 1.50 credits), MUS 120 (Music History I, 3.00 credits), and can choose between WMPI 100 (World Music Private Instruction, 2.00 credits) or PMI (Private Music Instruction - Concentration Instrument 100-Level, 2.00 credits), and between ENSM 100 (Choir Ensemble I, 2.00 credits) or ENSM 110 (Instrumental Ensemble I, 2.00 credits). Additionally, students can take MUS 114 (Class Piano I, 1.00 credit), PMI (Private Music Instruction - Secondary Instrument, 1.00 credit), or WMPI (World Music Private Instruction Secondary, 1.00 credit). The second term includes MUS 101 (Theory II, 3.00 credits), MUS 113 (Ear Training and Sight Singing II, 1.50 credits), MUS 121 (Music History II, 3.00 credits), an English 100-level or higher course (3.00 credits), and the option to choose between WMPI 200 (World Music Private Instruction, 2.00 credits) or PMI (Private Music Instruction - Concentration Instrument 200-Level, 2.00 credits), and between ENSM 150 (Choir Ensemble II, 2.00 credits) or ENSM 160 (Instrumental Ensemble II, 2.00 credits). In addition, students can take MUS 115 (Class Piano II, 1.00 credit), PMI (Private Music Instruction - Secondary Instrument, 1.00 credit), or WMPI (World Music Private Instruction Secondary, 1.00 credit). In the third term, students take MUS 200 (Theory III, 3.00 credits), MUS 212 (Ear Training and Sight Singing III, 1.50 credits), MUS 220 (Music History III, 3.00 credits), an elective (3.00 credits, excluding COND, ENSJ, ENSM, JAZZ, MUS, PMI, and WMPI), and can choose between WMPI 300 (World Music Private Instruction, 2.00 credits) or PMI (Private Music Instruction - Concentration Instrument 300-Level, 2.00 credits). Additionally, students can take MUS 214 (Class Piano III, 1.00 credit), PMI (Private Music Instruction - Secondary Instrument, 1.00 credit), or WMPI (World Music Private Instruction Secondary, 1.00 credit), and choose between ENSM 200 (Choir Ensemble III, 2.00 credits) or ENSM 210 (Instrumental Ensemble III, 2.00 credits). In the fourth term, students take MUS 201 (Theory IV, 3.00 credits), MUS 213 (Ear Training and Sight Singing IV, 1.50 credits), MUS 221 (Music History IV, 3.00 credits), and an elective (3.00 credits, excluding COND, ENSJ, ENSM, JAZZ, MUS, PMI, and WMPI). Students also have the option to choose between WMPI 400 (World Music Private Instruction, 2.00 credits) or PMI (Private Music Instruction - Concentration Instrument 400-Level, 2.00 credits), and between MUS 215 (Class Piano IV, 1.00 credit), PMI (Private Music Instruction - Secondary Instrument, 1.00 credit), or WMPI (World Music Private Instruction Secondary, 1.00 credit). Finally, students can choose between ENSM 250 (Choir Ensemble IV, 2.00 credits) or ENSM 260 (Instrumental Ensemble IV, 2.00 credits). Voice concentrators are also required to take MUS 122 (Lyric Diction I, 1.00 credit) and MUS 123 (Lyric Diction II, 1.00 credit), bringing their total credits to 64.00.
