COURSE CURRICULUM

The Kinesiology diploma program at Capilano University’s Squamish Campus is a two-year, 60-credit program that provides students with a solid foundation in the science and practice of human movement, health, and physical activity. In the first year, students take required courses such as ENGL 100 (University Writing Strategies), KINE 103 (Active Health), KINE 125 (Introduction to Leadership in Health and Physical Activity), KINE 151 (Biomechanics), KINE 161 (Leisure and Sport in Society), and KINE 190 and 191 (Human Physiology I and II). They also complete 9 credits of electives, including 3 credits from kinesiology and 6 credits from other disciplines at the 100 or 200 level. In the second year, students build on their foundational knowledge with core courses like CMNS 220 (Advanced Business Writing), KINE 206 (Applications of Functional Anatomy), KINE 230 (Human Motor Behaviour I), KINE 231 (Mental Theories in Sport and Exercise), KINE 261 (Health, Policy and Society), KINE 275 (Exercise Physiology), and KINE 296 (Kinesiology Career Seminar Series). They also select another 9 credits of electives, again divided between kinesiology and non-kinesiology courses. Throughout the program, students learn to analyze how physical, social, and psychological factors influence health and performance, gaining practical and theoretical knowledge applicable to careers in health promotion, fitness, rehabilitation, coaching, and related fields. The diploma also serves as a strong base for further studies in kinesiology or other health sciences.
