COURSE CURRICULUM

The Global Leadership in Sustainable Tourism Post-Baccalaureate Diploma requires a total of 45 credits, combining general, specialized, and elective courses designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills in sustainable tourism management. General courses, totaling 27 credits, include essential subjects such as The Geography of a Sustainable World, Tourism and Climate Change, Advanced Topics in Cross-Cultural Tourism, Strategic Management in Tourism, Applied Service Management in North America, Tourism Planning and Policy, and a six-credit Tourism and Hospitality Practicum. Students must also choose between Communication for International Learners or an elective at the 300-level or higher, depending on their background. The specialized courses, totaling 12 credits, focus on critical areas like Environmental Stewardship: Advanced Principles and Applications, Food Sovereignty for Sustainable Tourism Development, Adventure Tourism for Sustainable Community Development, and Human Capital Development in Tourism Management, providing practical and theoretical frameworks for sustainable community engagement. Additionally, students select 6 elective credits from a range of options offered on a rotating basis, including Globally Significant Places and Peoples – Biospheres, International Ecotourism, Adventure Tourism for Destination Development, Convention Management and Service, Hotel Operations II, Land Use and Tourism Operations, and other 300- or 400-level Tourism courses. This comprehensive curriculum is designed to prepare graduates to lead responsibly in the tourism industry, balancing economic, cultural, and environmental priorities to foster sustainable development in a rapidly changing global context.
